Group Guidelines:

  • For the twice monthly coaching sessions, you may bring copy you want to work on in any of the following genres: Commercial, Promo, Narration, Live Announcing, Animation, Video Game, or Dubbing. The only exclusion is audiobooks, a genre in which I am not well versed. Or I will provide the copy of my choice - usually Commercial.
  • Participants will be randomly selected from those who volunteer. I will do my best to work with 5 participants per session, perhaps 6, if there is sufficient time remaining. You may not work more than once per month, unless all participating in any given session have already worked. That is to say, you may not work twice until everyone participating in the sessions who wishes to has worked once. I encourage you to show up regularly, as most of what we absorb is learned by watching and listening to others work. You are also free not to work, but simply to observe. It’s always your choice. I will encourage you, but never force you.
  • Some sessions may be focused on a particular genre or topic as the spirit moves me. :-) I welcome your input (via email) on pertinent topics.
  • More rules may be added as the membership develops. Again, I welcome your input, as well as your patience as we work to make this a meaningful membership experience.

The Fine Print:

  • In order to protect the membership, you may not under any circumstances share the ZOOM login information.
  • When you sign-up you are agreeing never to screen record any portion of  the zoom, and are agreeing never to transcribe, post, share, disclose,  or use in a demo any copy shared with you. You agree that every piece of copy shared in the class shall be considered under NDA.  This is vitally important to maintain the integrity of client/advertiser/actor relationships.  Any violation of this is grounds for dismissal from the group.
  • Workshop sessions will never be recorded. This is a judgment-free zone, a place of experimentation and vulnerability, and will never be up for public scrutiny.
  • Neither will the VO Veteran Q&A Sessions be recorded so that our guests themselves are free to be as vulnerable as they need to be in sharing their experiences with you.
  • Please be courteous in the sessions, applying “Do Unto Others…” and every other form of the Golden Rule you can imagine.
  • Please refrain from giving advice or coaching. That’s why I'm here. :-)
  • I reserve the right to permanently dismiss anyone from the group for any behavior I determine to be detrimental or destructive.
  • You may cancel at any time. If you cancel mid-month, you will not be charged further, and may continue participating until the end of the month for which you’ve paid.

I love that Kay brings nearly 40 years of acting and voiceover experience to her coaching. It's like working with an encyclopedia - but distilled down to smart, usable nuggets I can apply to my auditions and jobs. Working with Kay has allowed me to feel more confident in my own voiceover "skin" and that has made me a better voice actor.

- Dani States

Kay has a uniquely brilliant approach to coaching VO talent, and also a very special VO pedigree that she willingly shares with her students. During one session I had with her, there was a connection we created to the message the client needed... that was nearly emotional for me.
'Trust and Be Brave'... yeah, its a thing.

- Brad Hyland

Kay Bess makes testimonials hard to write. If she were a one-trick pony things would be much easier. But during my journey in voiceover, Kay has gone from podcast host to coach to advisor to mentor to friend. So my advice is simply this: if your path crosses with Kay's, consider yourself fortunate - and if you ever get the chance to work with her, take it.

About Kay Bess

Kay Bess is an American voice actor originally from Santa Barbara, CA. She trained in The School of Dramatic Arts BFA Acting Program at The University of Southern California and studied Philosophy at UCLA. She studied Meisner Technique at The Ruskin School in Santa Monica and is a member (on-leave) of The Actor’s Co-op Theater Company in Hollywood.

Kay has worked as a voice actor for nearly 40 years and has been heard on TV and radio commercials too numerous to count. She’s done promos for every major American TV network and a wide variety of cable stations, and is currently the voice of Sinclair Broadcast Group. Kay has voiced video game roles in renowned franchises such as The Last of Us IICall of Duty: Infinite Warfare, Mass Effect: Andromeda, Agents of MAYHEM, Skylanders: Super Chargers, State of Decay 2, Crackdown 3, Final Fantasy XV, and Fallout 76. Kay has also landed roles in noted animation series such as The Loud House, Spirit Riding Free, and Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts.

She is best known as the voice of Ana in the celebrated video game Lara Croft: Rise of the Tomb Raider, and can be heard as the voice of The Starship La Sirena in Star Trek: Picard. She voices President Rosalind Myers in the widely acclaimed Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, and Bellroc in WIZARDS, the 3rd installment of Guillermo Del Toro’s epic trilogy, Tales of Arcadia, as well as in Troll Hunters, Rise of the Titans.

Kay resides in quaint and quiet Thompson’s Station, TN, just outside Nashville, with her emotionally unstable dog, Stella, and loves communing with the cows, deer, and other wildlife in her neighborhood. On the weekends, she relishes visiting local farms for milk, beef, and eggs and otherwise spends entirely too much time inside her head contemplating the meaning of life.
